#What uses AI

Three things in Teacup Quiz use AI, and each has its own allowance:

• Drafting a quiz: with AI, Create quiz in the Create a quiz dialog writes the questions and answers and picks the products for each answer.
• Translating a quiz: Translate with AI or Update with AI in the editor’s Languages step.
• Answers in shoppers’ own words: on questions with Shoppers can answer in their own words, AI picks the answers that fit what a shopper writes.

#Allowances by plan

Months, days and hours are counted in UTC. Free’s one AI-drafted quiz is per store and never starts over.

#AI-drafted quizzes

Each quiz the AI drafts uses one. While you have one left, the Create a quiz dialog says so: “This is your free AI quiz.” on Free, or how many are left on a paid plan, like “17 AI quizzes left this month.” Build it myself never uses one, and neither do edits in the editor.

When none are left, a banner at the top of the dialog says “Your free AI quiz is used” on Free, or “You’ve used this month’s AI quizzes” on a paid plan, with “You get more on Nov 1. A bigger plan drafts more each month. You can also build this one yourself.” The kinds of quiz are locked: click Build it myself to build the quiz in the editor, or See plans to pick a plan that drafts more. Teacup Quiz doesn’t make the quiz for you without AI. More in Creating a quiz.

After 10 AI quizzes in one hour, Create quiz shows “You’ve made 10 AI quizzes this hour. Try again next hour, or click Build it myself.”

The AI-drafted quizzes meter on Plans shows how many you’ve used: this month’s on a paid plan, or your one on Free.

#AI translations

Each click on Translate with AI or Update with AI for one language uses one translation, however many texts it translates (up to 400 at a time). Only new or changed texts are sent. When there’s nothing new, you see “Nothing new to translate into …” and it doesn’t count.

When the day’s translations are used, you see “You’ve used today’s 3 AI translations. Translate again tomorrow, or edit the texts by hand.” On Free it adds “Paid plans translate 20 times a day.”

#Answers in shoppers’ own words

Each time a shopper writes in “Or tell us in your own words” and the AI picks their answers, one answer is used. The same words for the same question within 10 minutes reuse the earlier answer and don’t count again. Each shopper can try it up to 12 times in 10 minutes.

When the day’s allowance is used up, the box quietly disappears after the shopper tries it, and they pick an answer as usual. It comes back when the allowance starts over at 00:00 UTC.

What shoppers write goes to the AI only to pick their answers. It’s never stored.

#Development stores

Development stores can take any plan with test charges. On a paid plan with a test charge, they get 5 AI-drafted quizzes a month, and the AI meter on Plans says “Development stores get 5 a month. Starts over on Nov 1. At most 10 an hour.” AI translations stay at the Free plan’s 3 a day. On a paid plan, answers in shoppers’ own words are allowed up to 300 a day.

#Failed AI calls don’t count

If the AI fails, nothing is taken from your allowance:

• A failed draft makes no quiz, and you see “The AI couldn’t write your quiz this time, and it didn’t count. Please try again in a minute.”
• A draft that couldn’t be saved to your store doesn’t count either: “Your quiz couldn’t be saved this time, and it didn’t count. Please try again in a minute.”
• A failed translation leaves the texts as they were. Try again in a moment.
• A failed own-words answer shows the shopper “We couldn’t match that. Pick an answer instead.”

If AI translation isn’t available at all, you see “AI translation isn’t available right now. You can still translate the texts by hand.” If AI drafting isn’t, the Create a quiz dialog says “AI quizzes aren’t available right now” and offers only Build it myself.

#When allowances start over

00:00 UTC is 7 or 8 pm the evening before in New York, and 1 or 2 am in Paris, depending on daylight saving time.
