“Good for” and AI shopping agents

Write what each product is good for onto your products, in your quizzes’ words, and let AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT use your quizzes through Teacup MCP.

#Two features for AI shopping

The AI shopping agents section on Integrations has two features:

  • “Good for” on your products writes what each product is good for, like “oily skin, breakouts”, to a product field that AI shopping agents, search and your theme can read. Every plan.
  • Your quizzes in ChatGPT and Claude (Teacup MCP) gives AI assistants a private address to use your quizzes: they ask shoppers your questions and recommend your products. Starter, Growth and Plus.

#“Good for” on your products

Turn on “Good for” on your products: “Saves what each product is good for, in your quizzes’ words (‘oily skin, breakouts’), on the product itself, so AI shopping assistants and search understand it. Updated when you publish.” Teacup Quiz writes a short list of phrases to each product your published quizzes recommend. A message says how many products have it, and the switch’s description keeps that count, like “On 24 products now.”

The phrases land in a product field named Good for (Teacup Quiz), which you’ll find with each product’s other fields in your Shopify admin. Your storefront, your theme and apps that read product data can use it.

Turning the switch off removes the field from your products: ““Good for” removed from your products.” Turn it off before you uninstall Teacup Quiz, because after uninstalling the field stays on your products until you delete it under Settings → Custom data → Products.

Where the phrases come from

  • Product quizzes: an answer with a Recommend more rule adds its Good for text (set in the answer’s dialog under More options → Why these products fit) to the products it brings up. Without that text, the answer’s label is used.
  • Result-page quizzes: each result’s name goes on the products of that result.
  • Price rules, like the answers to a budget question, don’t count.
  • At most 8 phrases per product, the most common first.
  • Only published quizzes count, including a test version while its A/B test runs.

For example, in a skincare quiz the answers “Oily” (Good for text “oily skin”) and “Breakouts” (Good for text “breakouts”) both recommend more of the products tagged “clarifying”, so the Clear Gel gets “oily skin” and “breakouts”. An answer without Good for text adds its label instead, like “Sensitive”.

#When it updates

  • When you turn the switch on.
  • When you publish, unpublish or delete a quiz.

Editing products in your store doesn’t update it by itself; your next publish does. Products no quiz mentions any more lose the field.

Turning the switch off removes the field from every product.

#For theme developers

The field is product.metafields.teacup.good_for, a list of single-line texts that the storefront can read. To show it under a product’s title, for example:

{% assign good_for = product.metafields.teacup.good_for.value %}{% if good_for %}Good for {{ good_for | join: ', ' }}{% endif %}

That prints “Good for oily skin, breakouts”, and nothing on products without the field.

#Your quizzes in ChatGPT and Claude (Teacup MCP)

The section says: “AI assistants ask shoppers your quiz questions and recommend your products, with prices, links and a one-click cart. Turn it on, then paste the address into the assistant as a custom connector. Keep it private: anyone with it can read your published quizzes.”

Teacup MCP lets AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT use your quizzes. Add its address to an assistant you run, such as a shopping assistant for your store, or your own Claude or ChatGPT to try it. The assistant can then ask your quiz’s questions and recommend your products, with prices, links and a one-click cart. Asked for a coffee for a French press, it goes through your coffee quiz and answers with your picks.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the standard way AI assistants connect to outside tools. Teacup MCP gives the assistant three tools:

ToolWhat the assistant can do with it
list_quizzesSee your published quizzes and what each one helps shoppers find.
get_quizRead a quiz’s questions and answers, so it can ask the shopper, or answer from what the shopper already said.
recommendGet the products your quiz picks for the shopper’s answers: in stock, with price, link, routine step and why each fits, plus a link that adds them all to the cart and the total. If an answer is still missing, it says which question to ask next.

The assistant can only read: it can’t change anything in your store. Conversations through Teacup MCP don’t show in your analytics and don’t count toward your plan’s completed quizzes.

#Add it to an AI tool

  1. Open Integrations and click Turn on Teacup MCP. You see “Teacup MCP is on. Copy the address into your AI tool.”
  2. Click Copy address (“Address copied”). The address ends in /mcp/ and a long secret.
  3. In your AI assistant’s settings, add a custom connector (some tools call it an MCP server) and paste the address. No sign-in is needed: the address is the key.
  4. Ask the assistant something your quiz answers, like “Which serum suits oily skin?”, and check that it uses your store’s quiz.

Where custom connectors live depends on the assistant and your plan with it; look for “connectors” or “MCP” in its settings or help.

#Keep the address private

Anyone with the address can read your published quizzes and get recommendations from them. Share it only with the AI tools you use.

  • New address: asks “The current address stops working. Make a new one?”. Click Make a new address, then paste the new one into your AI tools.
  • Turn off: asks “AI assistants using this address lose access. Turn it off?”. Click Turn off; you see “Teacup MCP is off”.

An old or turned-off address answers the assistant with “This Teacup MCP address isn’t valid any more. Get the current one in Teacup Quiz → Integrations.”

#Limits

  • Only published quizzes, in your store’s main language.
  • Only products that can be bought right now, with prices in your store’s currency. When nothing in stock fits, the assistant hears “Nothing in stock fits those answers right now. Try other answers.”
  • Each address handles up to 120 requests a minute, plenty for real conversations. A tool that sends more is told “Too many requests. Slow down a little.”
  • On a plan without Teacup MCP, such as Free, the address is paused right away: assistants hear “Teacup MCP comes with the Starter plan and up.” It works again as soon as you’re on Starter or up.
  • Uninstalling Teacup Quiz turns the address off for good. A reinstall gives you a new one.
