Emails Teacup Quiz sends you

The weekly report, the alert when starts drop, and the usage emails: when they come, what they say, who gets them, and how to change that.

#Three kinds of email

Teacup Quiz sends you three kinds of email about your store:

  • The weekly report, every Monday: last week’s starts, completions and sales, by quiz. You can turn it off.
  • An alert when starts drop: one email when far fewer shoppers start your quizzes than on a usual day, at most once a week. You can turn it off.
  • Usage emails, when your quizzes near or pass your plan’s monthly limit. They can’t be turned off, only sent to another address.

All of them come from Teacup Quiz at quiz@teacuphq.com. Replies go to the Teacup Quiz team at support@teacuphq.com.

#Choose who gets them

  1. Open Settings in Teacup Quiz.
  2. Under Emails from Teacup Quiz, type an address in Send to. Leave it empty to use your store’s email from Shopify.
  3. Click Save. It stays greyed out until you change something.

Send to takes one address, and every kind of email goes to it. To reach several people, use a shared address or group, such as team@yourstore.com. If the address isn’t valid, you’ll see “That email address doesn’t look right.”

#The weekly report

It arrives on Mondays, shortly after 08:00 UTC, and covers the week before, Monday to Sunday (UTC), next to the week before that. No report is sent when no one started a quiz in either of those weeks.

The subject gives the headline, such as “Glow Skincare: $1,240 in quiz sales last week”, or “Glow Skincare: 85 quiz starts last week” when there were no orders. Inside, under Your quizzes last week:

PartWhat it shows
StartedShoppers who started a quiz, with the change from the week before, such as “+12% vs week before”.
CompletedShoppers who reached their results, with their share of starts, such as “62% of starts”.
SalesQuiz sales in your biggest currency, without cents (with “+ 1 more” when other currencies came in too), and the number of orders.
By quizYour six quizzes with the most starts: started, completed and sales for each.

Then, when they apply:

  • How many shoppers left an email. They’re in your Shopify customers, tagged “Teacup Quiz”.
  • With at least 20 starts and fewer than half finishing: a reminder that shorter quizzes finish more often, and that “Where shoppers leave” on each quiz’s analytics shows which question loses them.
  • When no one started a quiz last week but some did the week before: a reminder to check your quizzes are still on your store.

Open Teacup Quiz at the bottom takes you to the app.

#Turn the weekly report off

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Under Emails from Teacup Quiz, switch off Weekly report.
  3. Click Save.

The report is on by default. Turn it back on the same way.

#The alert when starts drop

A quiz can stop getting shoppers without you noticing, most often when a new theme, or an update to yours, leaves out the Teacup Quiz section, button or popup. This alert tells you the day after.

  • Every day after 09:00 UTC, Teacup Quiz looks at the day before (UTC), across all your quizzes.
  • A usual day is the middle day of the 14 days before it, by starts. The alert needs a usual day of at least 8 starts, so quiet stores don’t get false alarms.
  • It comes when the day had a fifth of a usual day’s starts or fewer, such as 3 starts against a usual 30.
  • It doesn’t come while your quizzes are paused for your plan’s limit, or when none of your quizzes is published.
  • It comes at most once every 7 days.

The subject says what happened, such as “Glow Skincare: no one started your quiz yesterday”. Inside are the day’s starts next to a usual day, and, when views were counted, how many shoppers saw the quiz:

  • No one saw it either: it may have come off your store. Open your theme editor and check that the section, button or popup is still on the live theme. Check where your quiz shows opens the page that puts it back. See Putting the quiz on your store.
  • Shoppers saw it, but far fewer started: take the quiz on your store once, to check that it loads and the first question works.

Turn it off

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Under Emails from Teacup Quiz, switch off Alert when starts drop.
  3. Click Save.

#Usage emails

Usage emails follow the quizzes shoppers completed this calendar month (UTC), across all your quizzes. Each one comes at most once a month. Plus has no limit, so it never gets them.

EmailWhen it comesSubject
80%80% of your plan’s monthly completed quizzes are used.“Glow Skincare: 80% of this month’s quizzes used”
100%The month’s limit is reached.“Glow Skincare: this month’s 1,000 quizzes are used”
PausedOn Free, or on a paid plan without approved usage charges, quizzes pause at 110% of the limit.“Glow Skincare: your quizzes are paused until November 1”
Cap reachedOn a paid plan, usage charges reach the plan’s cap for the billing cycle.“Glow Skincare: usage charges reached their $50 cap”

Each opens with how many quizzes shoppers completed this month and how many your plan includes, then says what happens next:

  • On Starter or Growth with usage charges approved: quizzes keep running past the limit, at $2 per 100 more on Starter or $1 per 100 more on Growth, up to $50 or $120 per billing cycle.
  • On Free: quizzes keep running a little longer, then pause at 110 completed quizzes until the 1st of next month. Upgrading shows them again right away: paid plans never pause.
  • On a paid plan without approved usage charges: quizzes pause at 110% of the limit. Approving usage charges on the Plans page shows them again right away.
  • At the cap: quizzes keep running at no extra charge until your next bill.

Most also name the next plan up, such as “Growth includes 5,000 a month for $79.” See plans opens the Plans page.

#If emails don’t arrive

  • Check Send to in Settings. When it’s empty, the emails go to your store’s email in Shopify.
  • Look in spam or promotions, and add quiz@teacuphq.com to your safe senders.
  • The weekly report skips a Monday when no one started a quiz in the last two weeks.
  • Each usage email comes once per month: you won’t get the 80% email twice in one month.
  • Emails stop when Teacup Quiz is uninstalled.
