Shopify Flow and Shopify Email

Use the “Teacup quiz completed” trigger to tag customers, alert your team or send shoppers their picks with Shopify Email. Every plan, nothing to connect.

#What the trigger does

Teacup Quiz adds its own trigger, Teacup quiz completed, to Shopify Flow. It starts your workflows with the shopper’s customer record, their result, products, answers and a one-click cart link. Because it carries a customer, it can also start Shopify Email marketing automations.

It works on every plan, and there’s nothing to connect. The Shopify Flow and Shopify Email section on Integrations has two shortcuts: Open Shopify Flow and Marketing automations.

#When it fires

The trigger fires when a shopper finishes a quiz and leaves their email, once Teacup Quiz has created or found their Shopify customer.

  • Not on every finished quiz: shoppers who skip the email step, and quizzes without one, never fire it.
  • Not twice for the same email, quiz and answers within 24 hours, except in tests opened with Open your store or Try it on your store. Another quiz, or new answers, triggers it again.
  • Yes for your own test emails, which makes testing easy.

Which emails are accepted is explained in Collecting emails.

#Every field

FieldWhat it holds
CustomerThe shopper’s Shopify customer, with everything Flow knows about them: email, tags, orders.
QuizThe quiz’s name.
ResultThe result page they got or, on product quizzes, their top product’s name.
ProductsThe products the quiz recommended, separated by commas.
AnswersTheir profile answers, like “Skin type: Oily · Concern: Breakouts”.

Text fields hold “-” when there’s nothing to put in them, for example Answers on a quiz without short labels. Long texts are cut at about 250 characters.

#Before you start

  1. Click Open Shopify Flow on the Integrations page. Shopify Flow is a free app from Shopify: install it if your store doesn’t have it yet.
  2. Create a new workflow and choose the trigger: search for “Teacup”.
  3. Add conditions and actions, then turn the workflow on.
  4. Take your quiz on your store, leave an email, and check the workflow’s recent runs in Flow.

#Example workflows

Tag customers by their answers

Teacup Quiz already tags each customer with “Teacup Quiz”, “Teacup: {quiz}” and, on result-page quizzes, “Teacup result: {result}”. For tags by answer, add a condition and Add customer tags:

  1. Trigger: Teacup quiz completed.
  2. Condition: Answers includes “Skin type: Oily”.
  3. Action: Add customer tags, for example oily-skin.

Email your team about each lead

A coffee shop with a wholesale quiz can alert its sales team. Add Send internal email and put Quiz, Result, Answers and Email marketing in the message, with the customer’s email.

Add shoppers to a segment

Segments in Shopify are built from customer details such as tags. In your Shopify admin, open Customers → Segments and create one with a filter like customer_tags CONTAINS 'Teacup result: Glass Skin'. Combine it with your own Flow tags for finer groups, like oily-skin shoppers who haven’t ordered.

Send shoppers their picks with Shopify Email

  1. Click Marketing automations on the Integrations page, or open Marketing → Automations in your Shopify admin.
  2. Create an automation of your own and pick the Teacup quiz completed trigger.
  3. Add a Shopify Email marketing email. Where the editor lets you insert the trigger’s fields, use Result and Products, and point the main button to Cart link.
  4. Turn the automation on.

#Good to know

  • Flow and Shopify Email work on the Free plan. Klaviyo and Omnisend need Starter or up.
  • The trigger fires after the customer is created or tagged, so a workflow sees the Teacup Quiz tags already in place.
  • Flow’s trigger is spelled “Teacup quiz completed”; Klaviyo’s event is “Teacup Quiz Completed”.
