The welcome screen

An optional first screen with a heading, a line of text, a Start button and quick facts: every setting, its defaults, and what shoppers see.

#What the welcome screen is

The welcome screen comes before the first question: a heading, an optional line of text, a Start button, how long the quiz takes, and a few quick facts. It tells shoppers what they’ll get before they begin. In the editor’s words: “Shoppers start more often when they know what they get.”

It’s optional. Without one, the quiz opens straight on question 1.

Turn it on or off

  1. In Quiz steps, click Welcome.
  2. Turn on Welcome screen: “A short intro with a Start button: what shoppers get and how quick it is.”

You can also click + Add a welcome screen at the top of the canvas, or use Quick actions → Add a welcome screen. A new welcome screen starts with the quiz name as its heading (or “Find what fits you” when the quiz has no name) and the text “A few quick questions, and we’ll pick the products that suit you.”

To remove it, turn Welcome screen off, or use Quick actions → Remove the welcome screen.

#Every setting

SettingWhat it does
Quiz nameShown small above the quiz, on every screen. Under it you see the Quiz ID.
Welcome screenShows or hides the screen.
HeadingThe big line, e.g. “Find your perfect match”.
Text (optional)One or two sentences under the heading, e.g. “Three quick questions, then the products that fit you best.” Shoppers also see about how long the quiz takes.
ButtonThe Start button’s label. Empty, shoppers see Start the quiz.
Show quick facts“The numbers under the button: how many questions, how many products the quiz picks from, and how many it recommends.” On by default.

You can also click the heading, the text or the button on the WELCOME screen of the canvas and type there.

The quiz name and Quiz ID

The Welcome step is where you rename the quiz, whether or not it has a welcome screen. The name appears small above the quiz on your store (a section’s Show quiz title setting in the theme editor can hide it), and it’s the default text of the Teacup Quiz button on product pages.

The Quiz ID is made from the quiz’s first name and never changes, even when you rename it. You need it to show a quiz that isn’t your main quiz: see Putting the quiz on your store.

#Quick facts and the time estimate

Next to the button shoppers see “Takes about 1 min”. Below it, unless Show quick facts is off, three numbers:

The quiz showsQuick facts
Best matches“4 quick questions”, “120 products compared for you”, “3 picks, made for you”
A routine“4 quick questions”, “120 products compared for you”, “4 step routine, made for you”
Result pages“4 quick questions”, “6 possible matches”, “1 match, made for you”
  • Questions: the longest way through the quiz. With branching, some shoppers answer fewer.
  • Products compared: how many products the quiz can recommend.
  • Picks: your How many products, or the number of routine steps.
  • Time: 15 seconds per question, rounded down to whole minutes and at least 1. Up to 7 questions read “about 1 min”, 8 to 11 “about 2 min”.

Turn the facts off when the numbers don’t help, for example when the quiz only compares a handful of products.

#What shoppers see

  • The welcome screen is the first screen wherever the quiz is placed: a section on a page, the popup, or a button on product pages.
  • The progress line sits above it, still empty.
  • Shoppers who arrive through a link that already answers a question skip it and land on the next question. See Answer links.
  • Retake the quiz on the results starts again at question 1, not at the welcome screen.
  • The welcome screen doesn’t count as a start: a shopper counts as started once they answer the first question. See How counting works.
