Free trial and changing plans

How the 14-day free trial works, how to upgrade, switch between plans or go back to Free, and what happens to your quizzes and integrations when you do.

#The 14-day free trial

  • Every store gets one 14-day free trial of the paid plans, ever.
  • It starts when you approve your first paid plan, not when you install the app.
  • It’s remembered even if you uninstall and reinstall Teacup Quiz.
  • Switching to another paid plan during the trial carries the days you have left over to it.
  • The days keep counting if you go back to Free: come back on day 10 and 4 days are left.
  • Completed quizzes during the trial are free: on Starter and Growth, usage charges only count completed quizzes from the day the trial ends.
  • During the trial, the AI drafts up to 20 quizzes a month and answers up to 300 shoppers’ own words a day, whichever paid plan you try.
  • While it runs, Plans shows “Your free trial runs until Oct 25. You won’t be charged before then.”
  • On Free with trial days left, the paid plans’ buttons read Start 14-day free trial, or the number of days you have left.

#Upgrade to a paid plan

  1. Open Plans in the app menu.
  2. Click Start 14-day free trial or Upgrade to Starter (or Growth, or Plus).
  3. Shopify’s approval page opens with the plan’s price, its usage charge terms and any trial days. Approve it.
  4. You come back to Plans on the new plan. Its features work right away.

If you leave Shopify’s page without approving, nothing changes. If your quizzes were paused, they show again as soon as you’re back on Plans.

#Switch between paid plans

On a paid plan, the other plans’ buttons read Upgrade to … for bigger plans and Switch to … for smaller ones. Each opens Shopify’s approval page again; once you approve, the new plan replaces the old one.

  • Usage carries on within the billing cycle: completed quizzes your old plan included or already billed aren’t charged again.
  • Trial days you have left carry over.
  • Your current plan’s button reads Current plan and can’t be clicked.

#Switch to Free

  1. Open Plans and click Switch to Free on the Free plan.
  2. Read the dialog, “Switch to the Free plan?”, and click Switch to Free. Keep Starter (or your plan’s name) closes it.
  3. You see “You’re on the Free plan”.

Your quizzes stay. Shopify cancels your subscription and credits you for the unused part of the current period. On Free:

  • Quizzes pause once a month’s 100 completed quizzes are used, with a little grace (at 110).
  • The AI stops drafting quizzes for you: Free includes one AI-drafted quiz, once. AI translations are limited to 3 a day.
  • Klaviyo and Omnisend stop receiving emails and show Paused: needs Starter. Their connections stay, so they work again when you upgrade.
  • Your own CSS, A/B tests, answers in shoppers’ own words and Teacup MCP turn off right away.
  • Running A/B tests end, keeping the original. Test versions go back to drafts.
  • Your store stops using your own CSS. It stays saved with each quiz, and it’s back as soon as you’re on Starter or up, without publishing again.
  • The “Or tell us in your own words” box disappears from your store, and comes back when you upgrade.
  • Teacup MCP shows Paused: needs Starter, and AI tools using its address get an error until you upgrade.

Before you switch

  • End running A/B tests on A/B tests with Keep the original or Use the test version, so you choose the version that stays. A test still running when you switch ends right away, keeping the original.

#Cancel by uninstalling

To stop using Teacup Quiz altogether, uninstall it from Settings → Apps and sales channels in your Shopify admin.

  • Shopify cancels your subscription.
  • Your quizzes come off your store.
  • The Teacup MCP address stops working.
  • Teacup Quiz deletes your store’s data when Shopify asks it to, about 48 hours after you uninstall. See Privacy and your data.
  • If you’ve started your free trial, it isn’t offered again after a reinstall.

#“Keep your quizzes running past the limit”

Every paid plan approved today includes usage charges, so its quizzes never pause. Stores that approved Starter or Growth before usage charges existed see a banner on Plans: “Keep your quizzes running past the limit”.

  1. Click Approve in Shopify in the banner.
  2. Shopify’s approval page opens for the same plan, now with usage charges. Approve it.
  3. Back on Plans, the banner is gone and the meter shows the billing cycle.

#Questions

Do I lose my quizzes when I go to a smaller plan?
No. Every quiz, its analytics and your emails stay. Only the features the smaller plan doesn’t include turn off.
Can I get a second trial?
No. There’s one 14-day free trial per store, even after reinstalling.
Where do I see what I’ll pay?
Shopify’s approval page shows the plan’s price and usage terms before you approve. Afterwards, your Shopify bill lists the plan and any usage charges.
